Soaring Hope I & II

Two paintings created for the Desert Hearts Festival, a five day outdoor EDM, House & Techno music festival at Lake Perris in Riverside County, CA in May 2022. The flora and fauna are native to the Riverside County desert region. The butterflies are structurally accurate depictions of the Quinoa Spotted Butterfly which is an endangered species and the Dogface Butterfly. I took liberty with the butterfly’s anatomy. LED chaser, strip lights are attached to the backside of the paintings. The lights are programmable in terms of color and speed and can be syncopated to music.
